TOY DRIVE
8TH ANNUAL TOY DRIVE
Bring an unwrapped toy or gift to our Palm Desert office or give us a call to make arrangements for our staff to pick up locally. Toy donations will be distributed at our 8th Annual Children, Siblings and Families Christmas Celebration Program on December 20, 2011. Our teens are the most difficult population to gift and because of their unique situations they are often times overlooked when donations are made. Naturally, teens want gifts that are appropriate to their age and development. We encourage individuals who desire to gift our teens to give gift cards or reference the list of suggested gifts for children and teens.Family Health & Support Network, Inc. wishes to thank each and every individual who makes a toy donation in support of the children we serve.

Why Help
Christmas is the time of year when children residing in the California Foster Care System experience the most difficulties. It can be an equally difficult time for children and families in improvised and underserved communities of the Desert Region, especially in this time of economic uncertainty. For children in foster care, separation and loss from family and often times siblings who are placed in different foster homes during the Christmas season increases incidents of suicide, run-away, sickness and depression. For other at-risk, underserved populations of children here in our region some of the same incidents of disparity can occur. Each year, in an effort to provide some level of comfort to the foster children placed in our care FHSN hosts a Children, Siblings and Families Christmas Celebration Program. Our goal for the foster children placed in our care is to locate their siblings (regardless of where they are placed), family members (approved by the courts) and the loving foster parents who care for them for an evening of dinner, entertainment, gift giving and Santa. The joy expressed on the faces of the little ones as they reunite with their siblings and family members during this celebration program is enough to bring tears to your eyes. This year, FHSN has expanded our programs to include a Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI) Mental Health program. This comprehensive program is provided to underserved, improvised children, youth and families in the Desert Region. More than 200 at-risk children and families were accommodated at our 2009 Annual Christmas Program. In 2010, federal funding cuts and poor economic times prevented FHSN from hosting our Annual Christmas Program. This year while facing even more devastating economic times, we feel that the provision of our Christmas Program is not only necessary, but will have an even greater impact on the lives of the children and families we serve. Yet we will need the help and support of the community and the financial support of individuals and organization who share our compassion for the nations’ most underserved population, our disadvantaged children and youth. We invite the community to get involved. Donate an unwrapped toy, make an in-kind donation, or make a financial contribution to assist with the festivities. Or become a FHSN volunteer Elf.Tis the season to give back to your community. Therefore any level of support will make a positive impact in the lives of the children, youth and families we serve.
